According to police, resident Emma Smith was shot and killed by her son just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The 89-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say her son, 58-year-old Thomas Willis Smith, shot her and then himself. He later died at the hospital.
Police say Thomas shot his wife, 52-year-old Marsha Smith, at their home on Catch Point Court, then drove to the nursing home and shot his mother. Marsha called police around 8:15 a.m. saying she'd been hurt.
Upon arrival on the scene, officers discovered Marsha had a gunshot wound to her head. She was taken to the hospital and her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
Guardian Care released a statement about the incident saying the son seemed very devoted to his mother. They also say the shooting was "unforeseeable."
The facility also said counseling will be provided to any resident who needs it.
Police say they are searching for a motive but admit in a case like this one, a motive could remain a mystery.
