Cumberland man allegedly steals lottery tickets

FAYETTEVILLE, NC Chaz Ivery, 23, of Fayetteville allegedly took 33-packs of tickets from The Pantry on McArthur Road. Ivery was employed there as a cashier at the time and was entrusted to the safe keeping of the items.

Investigators say Ivery de-activated the security camera system during the time of the theft. He was also observed and video recorded in several other Pantry stores cashing in the stolen lottery tickets, according to authorities.

Ivery collected $3740 in prize monies between May 1 and May 27, 2008. He is charged with embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretenses.

Ivery was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $5000 bond. He is scheduled to make a first court appearance on Monday.
