NC State student hit by car

RALEIGH, NC

It happened Friday morning on Western Blvd. at Avent Ferry Road.

"I still don't even know what to say, I'm still surprised," Kevin Patel said after learning his roommate was hit.

Patel just learned what happened to Rshid Riboul.

He's amazed his 23-year-old roommate could survive the impact of the vehicle.

"When I called my roommates on the phone -- let them know -- they didn't know what to say," Patel said. "Everyone's just in shock that something like this would happen to someone like that."

Riboul is a senior biochemistry major who was crossing Western Blvd. around 5 a.m. Friday. Police say the vehicle that him, a gold Nissan, had the green light.

The impact threw Riboul more than 150 feet. The posted speed limit is 45 mph.

"It's just a dangerous road -- I mean -- I'm surprised more things like this don't happen more often," Patel said.

Patel has not spoken with Riboul's family but says he plans to as soon as he and others make a trip to the hospital.

"I hate that that happened to a person like him," Patel said. "I just -- all my wishes and all of my thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family, and I mean he'll be in my prayers."
