Police respond to Raleigh shooting

RALEIGH At approximately 4:40 p.m.Friday, Raleigh Police Department officers responded to a shooting call near the intersection of S. Saunders and Granite streets.

Upon arrival, the responding officers located the victim, Jonathan Lee Hemby, 31. Hemby was transported to WakeMed.

Officers at the shooting scene broadcast suspect and suspect vehicle descriptions. A short time later, an RPD detective saw a car matching the suspect vehicle's description near the intersection of Lake Wheeler Road and U.S. 401, and two suspects were subsequently detained in that vicinity.

The two suspects charged in connection with yesterday's shooting are James Arthur Cook, Jr., 28, of Raleigh and Antwain Jerome Mitchell, 29, of Fayetteville.

Each suspect was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to sell or deliver cocaine. The suspects were transported to the Wake County Jail.

In addition, warrants were obtained charging Hamby with possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine and with conspiracy to sell or deliver cocaine. The warrants on the victim will be served when his medical condition permits.
