Don Fowler a former Democratic National Committee Chairman in 1995 and 1996 is apologized Monday for comments he made about Hurricane Gustav. The remarks were caught on tape and posted online.

He suggested he thought Gustav demonstrated that god is on the Democrat's side in this year's presidential election since the storm is forcing republicans to scale back their national convention, which kicked off today.

Fowler made the comments Friday on a flight from Denver to Charlotte.

He says he was just mimicking reverend Jerry Falwell.

Falwell was criticized after 9/11 when he said the terrorist attacks were god's punishment for abortion homosexuality and other sins.
