Detectives seek person of interest in death

CUMBLERLAND COUNTY Clarence Bauer, 79, was found dead in his home shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

A friend, who came to the home after failing to reach Bauer on several occasions, found his body.

Bauer's 2004 white, Ford Focus is also reported missing. The cause of death is unknown at this time, as detectives await the outcome of an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill.

Meanwhile, investigators have a person of interest they are seeking for questioning.

He is 34-year old Charles Michael Gainey, II of Fayetteville. He is a white male, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 225 pounds.

He has brown hair and blue eyes and has identifying tattoos on his arms. On the left arm are the number "3" and the words "Game Over." On the right arm the words "Thug Life" is tattooed.

Gainey, who was released from prison earlier this year, is known to frequent the Eastern Boulevard and Massey Hill areas.
