Durham Police officer involved in crash

DURHAM Around 9 p.m. crews were called to the 2800 block of Fayetteville Street at Elmira Avenue.

The officer was driving south on Fayetteville Street in a marked vehicle when a northbound Honda Accord made a left turn in front of him and the vehicles collided.

The officer was transported to the hospital for treatment of neck and back injuries. The two people in the Accord were transported to Duke University Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles appear to be total losses. No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation by the Durham Police Department Traffic Services Unit.

Power lines and a power pole are down in the area.

Fayetteville Street between Red Oak and Pilot had to be shut down as police investigated the wreck.
