Hit-and-run accident kills teenager

ORANGE COUNTY Troopers tell Eyewitness News that a car with three people in it was being followed by another car on Greensboro Highway, just outside of Carrboro, shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect's car passed the victim's car on a curve and struck the victim's car on its left side.

The victim's ran off the road to the right, then came back left across the road and struck a tree. The accident killed 17-year-old Rodney Torain of Chapel Hill and injured two others in the car.

Those two were treated and released from UNC Hospitals. Torain was not wearing his seatbelt.

The suspect's car is described as a small four door car, either gold or silver in color and should have damage to its right side.

Troopers say the three victims were afraid to go home, out of fear that the other car would follow them there.

The occupants in the two cars did not know each other. Torain played football for Chapel Hill High School, as did Atlas Fraley, who passed away in August after a practice.

If you have seen this car or know anything about this, please call the North Carolina State Highway Patrol at 1-336-570-6809.
