According to Durham Police, the 32-year-old male victim shot himself while firing shots in the air.
The incident happened behind the HH Gregg store on Renaissance Parkway, which is located near the Streets at Southpoint Mall.
Officers responded to a call in reference to someone driving through the parking lot, firing shots around 3:28 a.m. Sunday.
A male was found shot in the wooded area behind HH Gregg. He was transported to Duke Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The victim's name has not been released and he is in critical condition.
