Lower rates for natural gas customers

RALEIGH It's proposing a 7 percent cut in North Carolina and 8 percent for South Carolina customers.

It wants the rates to take effect January 1.

A company spokesman says the reduction would reduce the average residential customer's monthly bill for 130 therms of natural gas from $196 to $183.

Piedmont has more than a million customers in the Carolinas and Tennessee.
