Around 7:45 a.m. Friday 37-year-old Daniel Blackmon of Clayton was hit while standing behind his pick-up truck in a Bojangle's parking lot.
Blackmon's truck had been involved in an earlier collision and an officer was at the scene when the men were struck.
A SUV driven by 58-year-old Patricia Jones of Clayton collided with Blackmon and the rear of his pickup, crushing Blackmon and bumping Officer K.L. Cook.
Blackmon received serious leg injuries and was transported to WakeMed. Officer Jones was also taken to WakeMed, but he was treated for minor injuries and released.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
The accident is under investigation and charges may be pending.
