State Health Plan bill now law

RALEIGH Governor Beverly Perdue signed the bill into law Thursday. The $675 million health plan covers 667,000 state workers.

The new law will increase premiums, deductibles and co-pays.

A debate surrounding the proposed changes that are now the law, have been debated for months. Those who opposed the bill said the changes were too costly and the state workers were concerned about paying higher fees during a slumping economy.

However, opposers and supporters agree the plan needed a makeover.
