Authorities recover body of drowning victim

FAYETTEVILLE Angel Gonzalez, 19, disappeared at Carolina Beach on May 23. Gonzalez's brother reported that they were swimming together off when he was swept away.

Officials said there were strong riptides in the area where he was last seen.

The Coast Guard, Carolina Beach Police, lifeguards and others searched for Gonzalez for several days, but were unable to find him during the Memorial Day weekend.

Authorities later recovered his body on Thursday around 8:45 a.m. in the 800 block of Carolina Beach Avenue North.
