Chapel Hill escapee caught

The North Carolina Department of Corrections said Tuesday that an Orange Correctional Center escapee has been captured at a Durham apartment complex.It said an individual who knew Roderick Baldwin recognized him and contacted the prison. The Division of Prisons' Fugitive Squad picked him up without incident at 3:12 p.m. and returned him to Orange Correctional Center

Baldwin, 45, had fled Saturday night from a work release job at a Chapel Hill bagel shop after stealing a truck and some cash. The van was recovered Monday morning at a truck stop on Interstate 40 near the border of Alamance and Orange counties.

Serving two consecutive 5-year, 10-month sentences as a habitual felon, Baldwin had been scheduled for release from prison in June 2011.
