Two killed in I-95 crash

JOHNSTON COUNTY Traffic was tied up for hours closing both northbound and southbound lanes as troopers investigated the scene.

Troopers said the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. at mile marker 106 near Kenly.

They said a driver in a white Saturn attempted to pass a tractor trailer, lost control, spun twice and was then struck by the trailer.

The Saturn was pushed about 200 feet before it stopped. A man and a woman inside the car were killed. Their identities are not being released at this time.

An eyewitness said the white Saturn had Maryland license tags.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt.

Officials reported that there were at least two other wrecks in that area around the same time.

Authorities reopened the north bound lanes around 9:15 p.m.
