Realtor rape suspect indicted

CARY Michael Edward Sleeman, 33, is charged with kidnapping and raping a Cary realtor a week and a half ago.

According to police, the victim was the agent on duty in a model home in a partially completed subdivision when Sleeman came in. The 41-year-old woman took Sleeman to see a house, and detectives say that's when he pulled out a knife, threatened the woman, and sexually assaulted her.

After the attack, Sleeman let the woman go, and she went to WakeMed in Cary to get medical attention. That's where police spoke with her. ABC 11 does not identify the victims of sexual assault.

Detectives were able to use information Sleeman gave the victim before the assault to trace him. They say he has confessed to the attack.

Sleeman is a registered sex offender. He was first arrested on a sex related charge in North Carolina in 1998, but that charge was later dropped. In 2002, he was convicted of a second-degree sex offense in Virginia and was placed on probation. Then in 2003, he was charged with soliciting a prostitute. That charge was also dropped.

Sleeman is now in the Wake County Jail. Bond was set at $2 million, and a judge has refused to lower it.
