Cold, rainy week ahead

RALEIGH As the cool air filters in, we'll start out the day Wednesday in the low 50s, which is pretty close to normal. But the mercury will not rise at all during the day, and probably will fall into the upper 40s in spots by afternoon! You'll need the umbrella and a heavy jacket!

Cloudy, cool and damp weather will continue into Thursday and Friday, making for a rather unpleasant start to the State Fair.

It may be the start of things to come.

AccuWeather.com Long Range Expert Joe Bastardi is expecting a cold, stormy winter for much of the South and mid-Atlantic. He says snow and ice storms could be frequent visitors to places in the South - like North Carolina - that rarely get more than one or two such storms over the entire winter.
