Thief takes thousands of scratch offs

FAYETTEVILLE According to a Kangaroo Express clerk at the Murphy Road location in Fayetteville, the robbery took place around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The clerk told police a man entered the store wearing a black ski mask, black hoodie, black pants and black shoes. The suspect grabbed a plastic container filled with lottery cards and attempted to take a second but was unsuccessful. Then he ran out of the store toward a motel on Dunn Road.

The clerk contacted the North Carolina Education Lottery Theft Division and had all of the stolen scratch offs voided. That means they can't be cashed.

It's estimated the suspect got away with about 6,000 cards.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office at (910) 323-1500 or 484-TIPS (8477).
