Suspect in Raleigh standoff jailed

RALEIGH Police arrested 25-year-old Justin Thomas on a slew of charges after he fired a gun outside the Raleigh Police Southwest Precinct office, located at 601 Hutton Street on Sept. 30.

Officers had to shut down part of Blue Ridge Road and evacuated nearby businesses when Thomas ran into a building and held officers at bay for nearly two hours.

Three officers shot him after they said Thomas pointed a weapon at them.

Thomas was wounded by the officer's gunfire and was taken to WakeMed hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities have not said what motivated Thomas to show up outside the police substation.
