Fire at assisted living center hospitalizes 14

RAEFORD According to Fire Marshall Freddy Johnson, the fire happened around 2:30 p.m. at Raeford Manor on Campus Avenue in Raeford.

Officials say seven residents were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and seven others were taken to Moore Regional Hospital. Most of the patients were sent to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation or other health reasons.

Authorities had to relocate the remaining 47 residents to another facility. The patients' ages range from 30 to 90-years-old.

According to police, the fire destroyed the operational aspect of the assisted living home.

Further details about the incident have not been released.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
