4th person dies from Hope Mills crash

HOPE MILLS, NC

Thirty-two-year-old Brooke Paquin of Lima, N.Y., died Saturday at a Wilmington hospital.

Authorities said Paquin was riding with 26-year-old Tristan Hanna of Webster, N.Y., last Thursday, when his car crossed the center line and hit a sport utility vehicle in Hope Mills.

Hanna died. The SUV driver, 26-year-old Hien Truong of Parkton, and his 11-month-old daughter also died; 26-year-old Huyen Truong remained in a hospital Monday in good condition.

Hong (Gwen) Nguyen says her son was delivering berets her company makes for soldiers when his vehicle was struck by Hanna's Mustang.

Hope Mills police say Hanna was driving 65 mph at the time of impact.

Police said Hanna was moving to New York, where Paquin was a nurse. His roommate told police Hanna planned to ask Paquin to marry him.

"He had finally decided on the perfect ring and he was going to pop the question either that week or that weekend," Hanna's roommate Joshua Dakin said.

Dakin says his roommate had a history of epilepsy and there's some speculation that he may have had a seizure behind the wheel.

"He was a great person," Dakin said. "Compassionate nurse, family oriented guy. He's do anything for anyone."

Nguyen would have celebrated her only grandbaby's first birthday on Wednesday.

The family says it still plans on celebrating Hannah's birthday by lighting candles Wednesday at the sight of the accident on Hope Mills Road.
