Mother charged in toddler accident

BURLINGTON

Investigators said the child was left unsupervised with another sibling in a car parked along U.S. Highway 70. The child got out of the car and walked out into the roadway and into the path of a car driven by a Burlington woman - who hit the child.

Now, the child's mother, Melissa Ann Rios, 22, faces one count of contributing to the delinquency/neglect of a minor. The child was seriously hurt and was flown to Duke University Medical Center for treatment.
