The shooting happened on November 16, 2009. Investigators say Robert Lewis' 3-year-old son shot himself with a firearm that was left unsecured in the family's home.
Lewis turned himself in to the Onslow County Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession of weapon of mass destruction, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and failing to secure a firearm from a minor.
He is being held under a $55,000 bond.
