It happened on Woodrow Street around 11:30 a.m.
Investigators say Kearney and 17-year-old Danny Ray Hinnant Jr. quarreled over money and Hinnant shot the older man.
Hinnant is now charged with murder. He was being held at the Wilson County Jail without bond.
