Sergeant Michael S. Haridat, 28, of Bronx, N.Y., is being held in the Onslow County Jail and is charged with assault with a deadly weapon in the shooting of 29-year-old Christian Onate Sunday. Haridat also is facing several drug-related charges.
He is a rifleman assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. He entered the Marine Corps in January 2002 .
According to Lejeune, Haridat did two tours of duty in Iraq -- one in 2007 and the second in 2008.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reported that 21-year-old Lance Cpl. Erwin Rodriguez Jr. is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
He is accused of shooting 27-year-old Jonni Aidoo. A third shooting victim, 27-year-old Enation Roney, remains hospitalized.
Jail officials could not say if either Rodriguez or Haridat had attorneys.
The case remains under investigation.
