Rocky Mount Police had been looking for Dewayne Avent since December 27. They found him hiding in an attic at a home on Ketchpoint Drive Friday.
They say he shot 27-year old Tronyale Daniel during an altercation in the 1200 block of Parham Street a few days after Christmas.
Daniel died at the hospital several hours later.
Avent is charged with first-degree murder. He was held in the Nash County Jail without bond.
