"We have been overwhelmed with the concern and generosity of many individuals since the earthquake," said Cheryl Proctor, board chair for Hearts with Haiti, in a news release. “But this gift surpasses anything we might have imagined."
The group said its St. Joseph Family home in Port au Prince was devastated by the tremor. The home's director was seriously injured and is now recuperating in Raleigh.
