Duke recruiting class has strong local flavor

DURHAM

Nine of 19 players signed Wednesday by the Blue Devils are from North Carolina. That's the latest product of Cutcliffe's effort to focus on local recruits. They also signed nine players from the state last year.

The recruiting experts rank this class near the bottom of the Atlantic Coast Conference and in the middle of the pack in the Bowl Subdivision. According to Scout.com, all the signees are rated as either two- or three-star prospects.

The gem might have come from out of state. Scout.com says Chicago native Laken Tomlinson is the nation's 23rd-best offensive guard.

Other key signees include Monroe, N.C., quarterback Anthony Boone and Charlotte back Brandon Braxton.
