Durham police investigate double murder

DURHAM

Officers were dispatched to check on a resident at 111 Lynn Road around 11:46 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found the bodies of a man and woman inside the house.

Police have not released much information about what may have happened inside the rental home off Highway 98, but they are saying it was not a random crime.

"The public needs to know that this does not in any way appear to be a random act, that we are on top of it investigating it," Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez said.

Authorities say there appeared to be signs of a struggle, however, they wouldn't say for sure it was a double homicide.

"We believe it is, but we can't be absolutely sure until the medical examiner checks it," Lopez said.

Sources close to the case say the man and the woman were stabbed to death.

While following some leads on a possible killer, police had to use an interpreter.

"The family members that we've dealt with are Hispanic and we've been able to talk to them," Lopez said.

Police say they have identified the victims, but aren't releasing their names.
