Car crashes into trooper, two hospitalized

RALEIGH Authorities say Trooper Michael Davidson was parked on the left shoulder of I-40 east near Lake Wheeler Road when a car traveling east on I-40 veered to the left to avoid striking another vehicle and struck the patrol car in the rear.

Both vehicles came to a final rest in the median. Trooper Davidson and the other driver where taken to Wake Med with non-life threatening injuries.

Trooper Davidson was treated and released.

Authorities have not released the other driver's identity or the extent of their injuries.

Traffic on I-40 was backed up for miles as crews cleared the scene.
