Officials tell ABC11 Eyewitness News that troops will come home in waves over the next four days.
82nd Airborne Spokesperson Maj. Brian Fickle says soldiers will return around noon Thursday, but he does not know how many will be on each flight.
The first troops due back were the first to deploy last month.
Members of the 173rd Cavalry Regiment left Green Ramp just two days after the devastating earthquake struck. More than 3,000 2nd Brigade Combat Team troops soon followed.
The 82nd Airborne Division played a key role in the early stages of relief.
The soldiers distributed more than 45,000 meals, 250,000 liters of water and delivered more than 10,000 shelter kits, while 82nd medics treated more than 7,000 patients.
The paratroopers also supported security operations for the Hotel Montana, Port-au-Prince airport, the seaport and embassy.
Officials say troop reductions will continue as UN forces, international partners and the Government of Haiti assume responsibility for military-supported tasks.
