The Wake County Sheriff's Office told ABC11 Eyewitness News deputies stopped 19-year-old Jermond Yungvirt on Highway 96 near Mitchell Mill Road around midnight Sunday.
Deputies arrested him, but before they could take him to jail, he escaped with his handcuffs on.
Wake County and Franklin County deputies searched for Yungvirt for several hours without success.
Officers later captured him around 10:30 a.m. when a passerby phoned in to report a suspicious person along Hopkins Chapel Rd.
He was placed in the Wake County Jail under $75,000 bond.
