Chief: Durham crime down

DURHAM

"The Durham Police Department's hard work and crime reduction are having a positive effect with community partnerships and perceptions of safety," Lopez said at Monday's city council meeting.

Lopez presented Durham leaders with numbers between 2008 to 2009. He said violent crime dropped 11 percent during that time.

That includes murder, rape, robbery and assault.

Property crime, like burglary, was down one percent.
