Amber Alert for missing 5-year-old cancelled

FORT BRAGG

Investigators said Te'amani LeSha Gerald was taken from the front yard of her residence on Lapoterie Street in the Hammond Hills Housing Area at approximately 8:14 a.m. Thursday.

Witnesses say they saw Gerald being carried to a 1999 black Suburban.

Te'amani's father said the girl was taken by her mother Alexis Gerald.

"She just ran up and grabbed her as she was going to school," said Sgt. Alphonso Green.

A source told ABC11 that Gerard turned self in to Charleston, SC authorities. Apparently, she produced a set of court papers that prove she has temporary legal custody - so at this point no charges have been filed.

However, Green says he has custody.

"I wish that she would understand that I'm actually trying to do something positive for my daughter and give her the opportunity to actually be someone in life and giving her the things that she needs," Green said, "And I wish that she would understand if she wants her daughter to have a good life, why don't she just let me keep my daughter."

Investigators say it's up to the courts to decide where Te'amani belongs.
