The 31-year-old Hoke County man killed Lonell Bass of Linden and injured four others in 2004.
The road rage rampage ran through Cumberland, Harnett and Wake counties.
Shareef pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the murder charges. His lawyers claimed he suffered from paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the crimes.
Prosecutors said he knew right from wrong and that he understood the nature and consequences of what he did.
Wednesday, a jury agreed - finding Shareef guilty of eight charges, including first-degree murder and four other counts of attempted murder. The only charge they didn't convict him of was the attempted murder of Robert Fortier.
Shareef could now face the death penalty. The sentencing phase of his trial was scheduled to begin Thursday.
