A Goldsboro native has been sentenced for the rape that sent another man to prison for 18 years before DNA evidence proved his innocence.

William Neal was found guilty in Wayne County Tuesday. Wednesday, a judge sentenced him to three life sentences plus 10 years.

Neal was indicted eight months after Dwayne Dail was cleared of the crime.

Dail was convicted after a 12-year-old girl identified him as the man who raped her in 1987.

A small sample of semen found on a nightgown showed Dail wasn't the rapist. He was released in August 2007.
