70 workers at Goodyear in Fayetteville to lose jobs

FAYETTEVILLE

A spokesman for the United Steel Workers Union that represents the workers confirmed the layoffs Wednesday. Union officials say the company is cutting production on one of its tire lines at the plant.

The layoffs could last 6 months to a year. Only about 20 union workers will take voluntary layoffs. The layoffs begin Friday.

Calls to Goodyear in Ohio, and at the plant have not been returned.

Last month, 15 employees were fired after a seven month-long undercover operation. The former Goodyear employees were accused of selling prescription drugs, marijuana and cocaine.
