Michael Schoenfeld, Duke spokesperson and VP of Public Affairs, tells Eyewitness News the long term plan for the home is to sell it -- just as Duke has done with several other homes in the Trinity Park neighborhood.
The university has successfully renovated several homes known as "party houses" and then sold them to owner occupants instead of landlords, who typically rent properties near Duke's East Campus.
It has been four years since the house was occupied. In 2006, a woman accused members of the Lacrosse team of rape during a party that was held at the property. There are pending civil suits stemming from the case, which has held up going forward with renovations.
Until the lawsuits are resolved, the house will remain vacant.
Schoenfeld says the house is regularly maintained and kept locked.
According to tax records, the home is valued at $106,916.
