NAACP holds 'Mass Meeting' on schools

RALEIGH The organization says the meeting was one final push to stop Wake County Schools' transition to community based schooling.

State NAACP President Rev. Dr. William J. Barber says the Wake County School Board's new student assignment policy violates Brown v. The Board of Education --a landmark Supreme Court decision made 56 years ago Monday that desegregated schools.

The Wake County School Board is expected to officially vote to end the county's socio-economic diversity busing policy on Tuesday.

The civil rights organization says members are willing to do whatever it takes --even risk arrest-- to stop the change.
