It happened on Hillsborough Road around 2 a.m. Investigators said an eastbound 1995 Chevrolet Corsica crossed the center line near Bellevue Avenue and collided with a westbound 1999 Nissan Sentra driven by Yonsy Balmore-Campos, 23, of Durham.
The driver of the Corsica - who has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin - was killed.
Police said while Balmore-Campos was in the proper lane at the time of the crash, he was charged with driving while impaired, possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and driving without a license.
