Soldier killed in Fayetteville shooting

FAYETTEVILLE

It happened in the 1100 block of Quail Meadow Drive around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say 21-year-old Jaime Guzman, who is stationed at Fort Bragg, is in custody charged with first-degree murder.

Police identified the victim as 82nd Airborne paratrooper Brian Goldburg, 21. They say the reason he was killed appears to be domestic violence.

Investigative sources tell ABC11 Eyewitness News that Guzman, who's in a different unit, lived in the home where the shooting took place. He apparently got into an argument Monday night and left. Guzman then returned early Tuesday morning, confronted the other soldier and shot him. Police later recovered a high powered rifle believed to be murder weapon.

Police say Guzman is cooperating with investigators.

"The suspect Mr. Guzeman was in the yard waiting for police and gave no fight," Fayetteville Police Officer Dan Grubb said. "He was arrested without trouble ... he waited for us and left with us."

ABC11 has been told the suspect's girlfriend was not harmed. Neighbors say the couple moved into the home a couple of months ago and were very quiet.

"Never heard nothing from them," neighbor Griffin Daniel said. "I seen them come and go and wave, but thats it. Never heard no loud noise from down there."
