Minor fire clears high school

TARBORO

Around 1:35 p.m., smoke was reported coming from the student restrooms in the A Building, which is adjacent to the main office.

The Leggett Fire Department was called as students and staff left the building.

A small fire in a trash can in the boys’ restroom was quickly extinguished. There was no damage to the building and no one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire department was using a blower to remove smoke from the building, but due to the lingering odor, officials said school was dismissed early at about 2:30 p.m. Parents were to be alerted through the district’s automated notification system.

Classes were planned as normal on Friday.
