The car hit a power pole, knocking it over and breaking a water main in the process.
Twelve homes lost power, and utility workers had to open fire hydrants in the area to lower pressure while they fixed the broken pipe.
That meant some homes lost water service and the Town of Smithfield is asking all residents to boil all water before drinking, cooking, brushing your teeth, making ice, or washing hands.
