It happened at an address off West 10th Street. The man left and the victim called for help. Halifax County deputies say they spotted a suspect matching the man's description just a few blocks away.
Kehaad Hawkins, 18, of Roanoke Rapids was arrested.
Deputies say he's a suspect in another burglary on Bishop Road, and that property from that break-in was found in his home.
Hawkins is charged with two felony counts of breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and felony possession of stolen property.
A Halifax County magistrate set his bond at $20,000.
