Bank robber captured after avoiding shots fired

FREMONT Fremont Chief of Police, Ron Rawlings, told reporters he encountered the suspect, 57 year old Clifton Johnson, with a semi-automatic weapon. The chief fired four shots at the suspect, however did not hit him.

The suspect barricaded himself in the building and not long afterwards, deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff's office arrived at the scene and surrounded the bank. With no way to escape, the suspect turned himself in and stated he had been shot. EMS inspected the Johnson and found only a bullet hole in his pants with no apparent injury.

Since Johnson was in fine condition, he was taken directly to the Wayne County Jail to be booked. He told law enforcement that he had robbed the bank because his daughter is sick and he needed the money.
