Sheriff Carter says someone reported the crime to his office on June 13.
A 19-year-old woman told deputies she was camping near the intersection of McPherson and Cabins Creek roads at an area known as the "Hippy Hole" when she was raped.
An exact date of the alleged crime was not provided to ABC11 Eyewitness News.
Investigators arrested 46-year-old Larry Wayne Boone of Cameron, N.C. on June 15. He is charged with second-degree rape and is being held in the Moore County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
Boone's first court appearance is scheduled for July 1.
