Wake Board of Commissioners approves budget

The Wake County Board of Commissioners approved its 2011 budget on Monday.Commissioners adopted the county manager's $951 million recommended budget with amendments during their regularly scheduled meeting.

Officials say the amendments will retain staff positions in Veterans Services and the Soil and Water Conservation District.

Beginning July 1,Wake County's 2011 budget will maintain the property tax rate at 53.4 cents and include the elimination of more than 50 positions --most of which are vacant.
