1 dead, 2 injured in Durham shooting

DURHAM

Police received a call about shots fired at the Pinecrest Apartments shortly after 3 a.m.

When they arrived, they found a man dead outside apartment 608 and two other men wounded.

On Monday evening, authorities announced they have filed charges against two people in connection with the shootings.

Investigators arrested 24-year-old Tracey Renee Elliott of Creedmoor and placed her in Durham County Jail without bond. A second person, 25-year-old Roger Lee Evans is currently not in custody at this time.

Before identifying the suspects, investigators spent hours searching for clues at the apartment grounds before daybreak and into late Monday morning.

"Eight shots, I hopped up and I looked, and they guy actually tried to come in my house after he was shot," neighbor Solomon Townsend told ABC11 Eyewitness News.

Townsend said when he opened his door, he found one victim clinging to life.

"When I saw the blood and him at the door, I immediately shut the door." Townsend said." "I was really, really scared. I was really scared."

Although police have not released any information about the victims, Townsend said they liked to party. "They were party people; you know what I'm saying? It was a lot things going on in the house, a lot of people in and out of the house. No telling what could have happened."

Authorities say anyone with information on Evans' whereabouts is asked to call Investigator Robinson at 560-4440, ext. 29335 or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
