Rape reported in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE

It happened in the area of Morganton Road and Westlake Road around 12:50 a.m.

The victim said the rapist forced his way into her home while she was sleeping and attacked her.

"She thought she heard her front door open. The person forcibly opened the front door," said Fayetteville police spokesperson Dan Grubb.

Detectives didn't give a description of the rapist and said he covered the woman's mouth and eyes before he assaulted her

Residents in the area like Shelia Revels say they are alarmed by the news.

"It's been nice quiet since I've been here. No problems with anyone. The neighbors are nice and friendly. It's just been nice and quiet," she said.

The attack has similarities to another sexual assault. Last week, Cumberland County Sheriff's detectives said they were investigating a rape that happened about seven miles away in the Legion Park subdivision of Fayetteville Tuesday.

Investigators says the victim was asleep in a bedroom of her home on Rustic Trail when she was awakened by a stranger standing over her.
