Power restored to thousands Monday

RALEIGH

The power went out just after 9 p.m. Sunday when severe thunderstorms moved through the Triangle. Witnesses in Wake County told ABC11 Eyewitness News that's when they heard a pop and saw lightning strike.

An electrical transformer in a substation in Wendell caught fire and it's believed the lightning is to blame, but officials have not confirmed that. An investigation is underway.
